Creators Terms of Service
Last Updated: 21 April 2025
TLDR Legal told us this page needs to exist. We listened and added this more human-friendly version so you know what you’re agreeing to without falling asleep. The TLDRs are here to help you get the gist. Just a heads-up: they don’t replace the full terms (which you still need to read), and if there’s ever a mismatch, the full legal version wins.
Welcome to the creator economy on daily.dev. These terms outline how creators can participate in the platform’s Cores system, including how to earn, use, and (in limited cases) monetize Cores. They are designed to protect both creators and the platform as we build a fair and sustainable knowledge economy for developers.
By participating in the creator program, receiving Cores, or transacting them in any way, you agree to these terms, as well as our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.
1. What are Cores?
TLDRCores are daily.dev’s in-app credits. You can earn them, give them, or collect them—but they’re not money, not crypto, and definitely not something you can use to pay rent.
Cores are the native in-app currency of daily.dev. They are designed to enable value exchange between users—primarily by allowing people to reward helpful, high-quality, or inspiring content.
For example, when someone finds your post useful, they might give you an Award, which transfers Cores from their balance to yours. Over time, these micro-rewards add up and help recognize creators who consistently contribute value to the platform.
Cores do not function as legal tender, cannot be used outside of the daily.dev ecosystem, and are not considered a substitute for fiat money. They are credits internal to the platform, and any utility they provide is limited to features daily.dev makes available at its sole discretion.
2. Monetization and Cash-Out (Beta Program)
TLDRSome lucky creators might get invited to turn Cores into real cash, but it’s invite-only, experimental, and could vanish tomorrow. Don’t bank on it—literally.
At this time, daily.dev is experimenting with a limited beta program that allows select creators to redeem their Cores for real-world currency. This program is designed to explore ways of rewarding high-impact creators while maintaining platform integrity.
However, there are several important disclaimers:
*- Access is not automatic. Creators must apply and be approved through an internal vetting process.
- Approval depends on factors such as the volume of earned Cores, the quality and originality of your contributions, geography, legal and tax compliance, and the broader status of the program.
- Participation is not a right and is subject to daily.dev’s sole discretion.
Even if approved, we may delay or revoke withdrawal capabilities at any time, with or without notice.
- We do not guarantee that any creator will ever be able to cash out. This feature is experimental, optional, and may be discontinued.
For these reasons, we strongly advise creators to treat Cores as an in-app reward system, not a source of income or store of monetary value.
3. Availability and Geographic Restrictions
TLDRNot everyone can use Cores. Some countries are excluded (blame regulations), and we can change availability at any time.
The availability of the Cores system—whether for earning, sending, receiving, or redeeming—varies by region and may be subject to legal, compliance, or operational considerations.
Some countries may be entirely excluded from the creator program or the Cores system due to sanctions, local laws, or platform policy. Additionally, we may restrict Cores functionality in any geography at any time, even after prior availability.
daily.dev retains full and exclusive discretion to determine where and how the Cores system operates, and these decisions may change at any point without advance notice.
4. Platform Fees and Payment Processing
TLDRWe take a 30% cut when users give each other Cores. Also, when you buy Cores, payment providers may add a fee. Oh—and all purchases are final. No refunds, no take-backs.
To sustain and scale the creator economy, daily.dev applies fees to various parts of the Cores system.
When users give Cores to others—such as through Awards—the platform deducts a 30% platform fee from the amount transferred. This helps cover operational costs and fund further development of the ecosystem.
Additionally, when users purchase Cores through supported payment providers, we may charge an additional payment processing fee depending on the method of payment, location, and provider terms. These fees will be clearly indicated at the time of purchase.
All purchases of Cores are final. We do not offer refunds under any circumstances unless explicitly required by law.
Cores have no monetary value outside the platform, and any internal value they hold is determined exclusively by daily.dev.
5. Acceptable Use and Prohibited Behavior
TLDRNo gaming the system. That means no bots, no fake accounts, no farming, no self-gifting, and no shady deals. If you mess around, we’ll revoke your Cores—or your account.
The Cores system is intended to reward genuine contributions and build community trust. Any behavior that manipulates or undermines that purpose is strictly prohibited. This includes—but is not limited to:
- Creating multiple accounts to game the system (Sybil attacks)
- Sending Cores to yourself via coordinated actors or shared wallets
- Using bots, scripts, or automation to accumulate or distribute Cores
- Engaging in spam, clickbait, or low-effort content to attract Awards
- Offering Cores in exchange for external compensation, follows, or services
- Attempting to reverse engineer, bypass, or exploit system limitations
- Promoting misleading, unethical, illegal, or harmful content tied to Cores
Violations may result in the withholding or removal of Cores, reversal of transactions, freezing of balances, suspension or banning of your account, and loss of eligibility for any current or future creator features.
We reserve the right to audit user behavior, investigate suspicious patterns, and take any action necessary to protect the system—including referral to legal authorities where required.
6. Use of Cores
TLDRYou can use Cores to reward others or show love with Awards. Right now, that’s about it—but we might add new uses in the future. Stay tuned.
Currently, Cores are used for:
- Awarding content and comments that add value
- Participating in creator incentive programs (where applicable)
- Recognition within the community
At this stage, Cores do not unlock premium features or provide exclusive access. That said, daily.dev may introduce new use cases for Cores over time. These may include—but are not limited to—unlocking certain product features, participating in challenges, gaining visibility, or earning recognition badges.
All future uses will be subject to additional terms, and daily.dev reserves the right to change or discontinue any Core utility at its sole discretion.
7. Taxes and Reporting Obligations
TLDRIf you do somehow cash out, taxes are your problem. We might ask for ID and tax forms. No paperwork, no payout. Sorry, that’s the law.
If you are selected for and participate in the cash-out beta program, you are responsible for any and all tax obligations that result from your use of the platform.
You may be required to submit tax forms (e.g., W-9, W-8BEN) or provide documentation to daily.dev prior to receiving any withdrawals. We may withhold payments or suspend your cash-out access if required by law or if documentation is not submitted on time.
You are solely responsible for reporting your income to your local tax authorities.
8. Suspension, Termination, and Policy Changes
TLDRWe can suspend or ban anyone, anytime, if you break the rules (or even look like you might). This includes freezing or deleting your Cores. Play fair.
daily.dev may suspend or terminate your access to the Cores system, creator program, or entire platform at any time, without notice, for reasons including—but not limited to:
- Breach of these Terms or other daily.dev policies
- Evidence of fraud, spam, or manipulation
- Regulatory risk or legal compliance issues
- Inactivity or abandonment of your account
We also reserve the right to modify, suspend, or shut down the Cores system at any time. That includes changing how Cores are earned, used, or withdrawn, as well as updating eligibility requirements and fee structures.
We will make efforts to notify users of significant changes, but in some cases, changes may take effect immediately.
9. No Guarantees
TLDRWe don’t promise you’ll earn anything. Cores don’t come with perks, earnings aren’t guaranteed, and we might change everything next week. Just enjoy the ride.
Participation in the creator program and use of the Cores system is entirely voluntary. We make no guarantees regarding your ability to:
- Earn any specific amount of Cores
- Convert Cores into cash
- Maintain your creator status
- Access platform features in the future
- Derive any commercial value from your content
daily.dev may feature, rank, or promote content at its sole discretion, and participation in the program does not entitle you to visibility, exposure, or revenue.
10. Enforcement and Dispute Resolution
TLDRIf we enforce something, that’s that. You can ask us to review it, but we make the final call.
All enforcement decisions made by daily.dev are final. We may withhold, remove, or claw back Cores at our discretion, especially if abuse or manipulation is suspected.
If you believe your account or Core balance was impacted in error, you may contact support@daily.dev to request a review. However, we are under no obligation to reinstate removed balances or reverse enforcement actions.
