The honest backstory: I'm learning Go, and I wanted the learning to leave something behind. Toy projects teach syntax and then get deleted. Publishing forces the other questions — what does the API look like to someone who didn't write it, what happens on bad input, what am I willing to document as a limitation. So I chose a problem I already understand deeply. Healthcare integrations spend an absurd amount of code pulling a handful of fields out of large messages. This is the transformation model at the core of Helios Conductor, rebuilt in Go and stripped down to something anyone can import. What it gets right, I think: absent fields are omitted (messages vary — that's data), malformed paths are rejected at construction (that's a bug), no third-party dependencies, and runnable examples verified by go test so the docs can't drift from the code. What it doesn't do yet is, in the README rather than hidden: escape sequences, field repetition, subcomponents, MLLP framing.
