# 20 FPS On E-Paper Display Without Help

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

A developer achieved 20 FPS on a 960×540 e-paper display using only an ESP32 chip, without additional processing hardware. The technique works by understanding how e-ink particles behave and generating optimized driving waveforms that only move particles needed for the next frame, rather than fully erasing and redrawing. An MPEG-like delta encoding transmits only frame changes, reducing data transfer and enabling higher refresh rates on mid-range platforms like Lilygo and M5PaperS3.
