The Tachyscope Laser is a 360-degree oscilloscope display built by Daniel Ross for the 2026 Frikkin Lasers contest. It uses a helium-neon laser tube whose beam travels up a hollow shaft and bounces off a galvanometer mirror on a spinning platform, sweeping across a translucent target at ~100 RPM to create waveform visuals via persistence of vision. The enclosure is styled in steampunk fashion with exposed vacuum tubes driving the galvo — functional elements that also serve the aesthetic. The contest runs until July 23rd and includes categories for DIY lasers and non-display projects.
