A11yShape is a new prototype tool that makes 3D modeling accessible to blind and low-vision programmers by integrating with OpenSCAD. It generates accessible model descriptions, organizes models into semantic hierarchies, and works with screen readers, allowing users to independently create and verify 3D designs without sighted assistance. The tool includes an AI panel powered by ChatGPT-4o for real-time validation and debugging, with synchronized panels that highlight corresponding code, descriptions, and model components. Initial testing with 4 visually impaired participants showed promise, though users noted challenges with complex shapes and expressed desire for tactile feedback. Future iterations may integrate tactile displays and 3D printing capabilities.
