# 4 problems nobody told me about before I switched from Plex to Jellyfin

**[XDA Developers](https://daily.dev/sources/xda-developers)** · 5 min read · 1 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

A first-hand account of switching from Plex to Jellyfin, covering four friction points the author encountered: remote streaming requires manual setup (port forwarding, DNS, Tailscale) unlike Plex's plug-and-play approach; client apps vary in polish and features across platforms; community plugins are powerful but can break; and metadata management becomes entirely the user's responsibility. Despite these challenges, the author has no regrets, valuing Jellyfin's free, open-source nature and full control over Plex's subscription fees.

> Paid for the Plex lifetime subscription - no regrets - to support companies like them. Jellyfin is a heaping pile of UX/UI trash (don't get me started on their codinig patterns).
