Eighty residents living near SpaceX's Starbase facility in South Texas have filed a class-action lawsuit alleging that Starship rocket launches are physically destroying their homes. Plaintiffs report foundation cracks, burst pipes, warped floors, and shattered windows caused by sonic booms and overpressure waves from 11 test flights between April 2023 and October 2025. One plaintiff faces $100,000 in foundation repair costs exceeding her home's value. Beyond structural damage, SpaceX's presence has doubled local housing costs and restricted access to a previously public beach. The lawsuit was filed weeks before SpaceX's $75 billion IPO at a $2 trillion valuation. The Commercial Space Launch Act grants the Secretary of Transportation power to suspend launches deemed harmful to public health, but no such action has been taken.
