# A 3D Printed Marble Clock, But It’s Scrolling Text

**[Hackaday](https://daily.dev/sources/hackaday)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Ivan Miranda built a 3D printed scrolling text display using black and white marbles instead of a fixed marble clock. A round wheel design uses inner steel ball bearings and two stepper motors, one for the wheel and one for an inner selector mechanism, to align marble channels and pick the right marble color for each slot. The structure is massive but entirely 3D printed and bolted together. He had to debug issues like IR sensors getting confused by daylight, and the wheel still needs manual homing before starting, with marble color ratios sometimes causing gaps in the text.
