Google announced major upgrades to Search at I/O 2026. AI Mode, now with over one billion monthly users, is being upgraded to Gemini 3.5 Flash as the default model. Key announcements include a redesigned intelligent Search box supporting multimodal inputs, background information agents that monitor the web and send synthesized updates, expanded agentic booking capabilities, and agentic coding powered by Google Antigravity that can generate custom UI, dashboards, and mini apps on the fly. Personal Intelligence in AI Mode is also expanding to nearly 200 countries across 98 languages at no cost.
