The Optocam Zero is a DIY digital camera built around the Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W SBC, inspired by toy cameras like the Kodak Charmera. It combines a Raspberry Pi Camera Module 3, a 1.3-inch 240x240 LCD, a 14500 Li-Ion battery with USB-C charging, and a fully 3D-printed PETG case. Key features include autofocus, eight photo filters, GIF recording, image transfer via a custom hotspot, and 70–80 minutes of battery life. The total build cost is approximately $100–$120, and all hardware files (BOM, STL, CAD, build guide) plus the Python-based camera software installer are available on GitHub. The Python code was developed with Anthropic Claude's assistance.
