Maaret Pyhäjärvi and Ru Cindrea have built 'Capture the Bugs', a self-service learning tool for software testers inspired by the 'Capture the Flag' concept in security. The tool provides an instrumented test target (e-primer) with two feedback modes: input coverage (helping testers imagine what to try) and results coverage (comparing found bugs against 65 known issues using an in-browser AI model). Benchmarking shows professional testers typically find only 18% of bugs on comparable targets, motivating this more accessible testing education initiative. The tool is freely available and aims to help testers improve through practice with feedback, without requiring a live instructor.
