# Action Required: Potential Disruption of KurrentDB Service due to Public CA Certificate clientAuth EKU Removal

**[Event Store](https://daily.dev/sources/eventstore)** · 6 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Public Certificate Authorities are removing the clientAuth Extended Key Usage (EKU) from TLS server certificates, following Google Chrome Root Program policy v1.8. This affects KurrentDB multi-node clusters running version 24.2 or later that use public CA certificates, as nodes require both serverAuth and clientAuth EKUs for inter-node authentication. Affected nodes will fail to join clusters with the error 'Missing extended key usage: Client Authentication'. The fix is to upgrade to KurrentDB 24.10.12 or 26.0.2, which introduces a DisableClientAuthEkuValidation configuration option. Kurrent Cloud users must act before August 3, 2026; self-managed users should act before their next certificate renewal. A future dual-certificate model is planned to eliminate the workaround entirely.
