Apple has updated the age rating questionnaire in App Store Connect to include questions about social media capabilities, in preparation for new Time Allowances features in iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27. A social media capability is defined as the ability to redistribute, amplify, or interact with user-generated content through a social feed or similar discovery method. Apps with these capabilities will show a new Social Media content descriptor on their App Store product page. Developers can answer these questions now, but responses will be required starting September 2026 when submitting new apps or updates. Apps that have social media capabilities disabled for users under 13 will be excluded from the Social Media Time Allowance category for those users.
