GitHub has released the Agent tasks REST API in public preview for Copilot Pro, Pro+, and Max subscribers. The API allows developers to programmatically start and track Copilot cloud agent tasks, which run in a background environment to make code changes and open pull requests. Use cases include fanning out refactors across multiple repositories, automating repository setup from internal portals, and preparing weekly releases with release notes. The API supports personal access tokens (classic and fine-grained) and OAuth tokens.
