Unionised Samsung Electronics workers have approved a government-brokered bonus deal, averting an 18-day strike after a five-month dispute. 74% of over 62,000 voters backed the agreement. Workers in Samsung's memory chip division stand to receive bonuses of up to $416,000 this year, driven by soaring AI-related chip profits. The deal includes a 50% annual salary cash bonus for all chip workers plus stock bonuses tied to 10.5% of chip division operating profit. However, the deal has created internal tension, as consumer electronics employees receive far smaller payouts. Samsung's 2026 annual profit is projected to hit ₩300 trillion, its highest ever, far surpassing its 2018 record.
