For HAWK, the model identified a previously unknown mathematical symmetry in its lattice structure, effectively halving its security margin and requiring doubled key sizes to maintain equivalent security. For seven-round AES, it developed a novel 'Möbius Bridge' technique that accelerates prior meet-in-the-middle attacks by 200–800x. Neither finding threatens production systems. Claude developed the HAWK attack in ~60 hours at ~$100K in API costs, while human researchers spent weeks validating results — suggesting AI may shift the bottleneck in cryptography research from discovery to verification.
