Blackstone-backed AirTrunk has announced plans to invest $30 billion in India by 2030, targeting 5GW of data centre capacity across multiple states. The announcement comes just six weeks after AirTrunk entered India via its acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra. The centrepiece is a 3GW campus near Mumbai estimated at $21 billion. The move is part of a broader wave of hyperscale AI infrastructure investment in India, with Google, Microsoft, and Amazon also committing tens of billions. India's government has supported the push with a 20-year tax holiday and billions in AI and semiconductor funding. Execution challenges remain significant — India's total live capacity was only 1.6GW at end of 2025, meaning the announced buildout would require unprecedented construction scale.
