The attack originated from compromised IoT devices like home routers, IP cameras, and DVRs within networks of AT&T, Comcast, Verizon, T-Mobile, and Charter. Unlike traditional DDoS attacks, the threat now comes from within ISP networks themselves, forcing providers to manage outbound malicious traffic from infected customer devices. The botnet operators monetize their infrastructure by selling it as a residential proxy network, masking attack origins through legitimate US home devices.
