The seller, Macquarie Asset Management, had grown Aligned from two sites and 85 MW of capacity in 2018 to 51 campuses with over 6.4 gigawatts live or planned across the US and South America. Immediately after closing, the consortium committed an additional $5 billion in growth capital to expand AI-ready capacity. The buyers — which include Microsoft and Nvidia as AIP partners — are betting that AI compute demand will continue to outpace supply, making power and cooling infrastructure a scarce and valuable asset.
