Allianz Partners is preparing to cut between 1,500 and 1,800 jobs in its travel insurance division over the next 12 to 18 months, primarily in call centres, as AI systems take over customer service and claims handling work. The cuts represent up to 8% of the division's workforce across Germany, France, and other European countries. The move reflects a broader trend of AI-driven workforce reductions spreading beyond the tech sector into traditional industries, with companies like Oracle, Atlassian, and Meta having made similar moves. Analysts note that European labour laws and works councils will slow but not prevent the reductions, and that the pattern of AI replacing high-volume, scripted call-centre roles is likely to spread to other parts of the business once cost savings materialise.
