# Am I Obsolete Because of AI?

## Content

Last week, a junior developer—3 years younger than me—used ChatGPT to write a full React component in just **1 hour**. It included **form validation, API integration, and error handling**, all working perfectly.

Honestly, it would have taken **me a whole day** to write that.

For a moment, I felt discouraged. I thought:

> “Is my experience now useless?”

But 2 days later, a bug showed up in production. The junior developer couldn’t figure out the issue—**my experience saved the day**.

---

### AI Is a Tool, Not a Replacement

I now use AI to generate repetitive code, like CRUD operations or basic UI components.
But I **design the architecture** myself.

AI gives me **speed**, but **strategic thinking** is still my job.

---

### Why Experience Still Matters

* **AI can write code**, but it can’t understand **business goals** or design the **right solution**.
* **Code review** is more important than ever. Knowing what’s secure, maintainable, or scalable takes experience.
* **AI can’t design full systems** that are easy to maintain, scale, or secure.

---

### How I Use AI in My Workflow

✅ **Code Generation**: For repetitive tasks

✅ **Debugging Help**: Suggesting possible causes & fixes

✅ **Writing Documentation**: Comments, README files

✅ **Learning New Tech**: Acting like a tutor

✅ **Researching Best Practices**: Comparing tools and approaches

---

### What I Still Do Myself

🧠 Business logic design

🗃️ Database schema planning

⚙️ Performance optimization

🔒 Security decisions

🤝 Team collaboration & mentoring

---

### The Reality:

> AI won’t take your job.
> But someone who knows how to use AI **might**.

Your experience is still **very valuable**—but now, when **combined with AI**, you can be **10x more productive**.

---

### Mindset Shift:

Don’t think of AI as your **competitor**.
Think of AI as your **co-pilot**.

---

Junior developers can code fast with AI. But it takes **senior thinking** to debug, scale, and maintain that code.

In the future, your value isn’t in **typing speed**—it’s in your **problem-solving depth**.

---

### Prepare for the Future:

* Get comfortable with AI tools
* Develop system thinking
* Improve your business understanding
* Sharpen your communication skills
* Keep learning, always

---

> Simple things are even more trivial to do, but I don't think we'll be obsolete. The current AI (LLMs) is just something I call "outsourced muscle memory" - takes repetition to train, is never 100% accurate and sometimes it fails spectacularly. The cost is too high, though.

The cost is too high, though.\nAt the end of the day, we all need to remember that it’s just a glorified drawing (as in: randomly/probabilistically picking) machine. It will never reach 100% accuracy and will always have to be supervised and to supervise it, you have to know how to do it all yourself (otherwise it’s not much of supervising in the first place). At least with the current algorithms behind LLMs and GenAI in general, which increase their precission by the amount of data they consume (and that amount is subject to change, as discussions on copyright become more vocal). Anyone telling you otherwise is either a shill or has investor propaganda deeply embedded (or both for that matter; read up a bit on the recent “success stories”, e.g. Replin deleting a production database and generally faking it).\nAs for the last question: no, I don’t use AI in professional projects (I do toy with it for smaller ones, though, but I don’t have any agents installed - I like to keep this contained). The solutions proposed, if they work (that’s not a given), are seldom of good quality: too slow, too bloated, too much code generated - I end up correcting them by hand 90% of the time (it’s faster than reprompting the LLM until it gets it right).\nThe second reason is more formal: I won’t be submitting any customer code to a third party without consent (and you would be surprised how many customers don’t want that, outside of the corporate propaganda at least). It’s simple really - anything you submit is used to train the models. It’s a matter of time before someone comes up with a prompt to “get me the codebase of company X”. 😉","datePublished":"2025-07-25T06:06:11.727Z","url":"https://daily.dev/posts/TH5fTzRwW#c-lX7gCSh4v","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Peter Mrożek","url":"https://daily.dev/petermrozek","image":"https://media.daily.dev/image/upload/s--pBfYX68K--/f_auto/v1769247960/avatars/avatar_Qz65P1nVw3Bu6C5YwaZgA?_a=BAMAMiiu0"},"interactionStatistic":{"@type":"InteractionCounter","interactionType":{"@type":"LikeAction"},"userInteractionCount":2}},{"@type":"Comment","text":"I’m planning to get a super junnie and give to him claude code with pre-configured CLAUDE.md + examples and such.
