Amélie (2023)

Amélie is a DIY selfie printer installation built with a Raspberry Pi and a thermal receipt printer. Photos are taken via a camera after a button-triggered countdown, then printed instantly on thermal paper — no ink required. The print fades over time, evoking the feel of old instant photos. Three versions were built between 2018 and 2023, progressively improving hardware (Raspberry Pi 3 to 4, Camera Module V2 to V3) and adding features like USB image saving, config file support, autofocus, and a transparent plexiglass enclosure. The code is written in Python using OpenCV, and the v3 source code and parts list are available on GitHub.
