# Amazon ECS adds Amazon VPC Lattice support for blue/green, linear, and canary deployments

**[AWS](https://daily.dev/sources/aws)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Amazon ECS now supports built-in blue/green, linear, and canary deployment strategies for services using Amazon VPC Lattice, enabling managed traffic shifting across VPCs and accounts during rollouts. Teams can validate new versions with test traffic, run Lambda or pause lifecycle hooks for manual approval, and leverage CloudWatch alarms with the ECS deployment circuit breaker to auto-rollback. Bake time keeps the previous version ready for quick rollback without downtime. The feature can be enabled via the Console, CLI, SDKs, or IaC tools for new and existing services in any region where VPC Lattice is available.

## Questions this post answers

### Does Amazon ECS support canary or blue/green deployments with VPC Lattice?

Yes, Amazon ECS now supports built-in blue/green, linear, and canary deployment strategies for services using Amazon VPC Lattice. Teams can shift traffic all at once, in equal increments, or starting with a small percentage, validate new versions with test traffic, and use Lambda or pause lifecycle hooks for manual approval before full rollout.

_daily.dev surfaces updates like this for engineers rolling out safer ECS deployment strategies._

### How does ECS roll back a failed deployment when using VPC Lattice traffic shifting?

ECS services using VPC Lattice can integrate with Amazon CloudWatch alarms and the ECS deployment circuit breaker to automatically roll back if issues are detected. Bake time keeps the previous task version running and ready, enabling a quick rollback without downtime.

_Track rollback and resilience features on daily.dev before committing to a deployment strategy._

### How do I enable VPC Lattice deployment strategies for an existing ECS service?

Select the VPC Lattice target groups, listener rule, and preferred deployment strategy in the ECS service configuration using the AWS Management Console, AWS CLI, AWS SDKs, or Infrastructure-as-Code tools. This works for both new and existing ECS services in any AWS Region where VPC Lattice is available.

_daily.dev helps teams keep up with configuration changes like this across ECS and VPC Lattice._
