Amazon Web Services has launched a new internal organization focused on forward-deployed engineers (FDEs) for AI, committing $1 billion in internal resources. Engineers will embed within client companies to deploy purpose-built AI agents, with a focus on fast engagements and building lasting AI capabilities within the client organization. The FDE model, pioneered by Palantir, is gaining traction as enterprises struggle to integrate AI. AWS joins OpenAI and Anthropic, which recently launched their own FDE joint ventures valued at $4 billion and $1.5 billion respectively, though those were backed by private equity partners.
