Amazon Redshift introduces RG instances, a new instance family powered by AWS Graviton. RG instances run data warehouse workloads up to 2.2x faster than RA3 instances at 30% lower price per vCPU. An integrated data lake query engine is built in, delivering up to 2.4x faster performance for Apache Iceberg and 1.5x for Apache Parquet compared to RA3. The integrated engine replaces Amazon Redshift Spectrum, eliminating the $5/TB scanning fee and keeping data lake queries within the VPC. Migration from RA3 is supported via Elastic Resize (10-15 min downtime) or Snapshot and Restore, with no changes required to external tables or application code. RG instances are now generally available across major AWS regions.
