# Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB now supports backup and restore

**[AWS](https://daily.dev/sources/aws)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB now supports customer-managed backup and restore. Users can trigger on-demand backups, schedule automated recurring backups with configurable frequency and retention, and restore to a new or existing resource. Up to four automated backup configurations per resource are supported with hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or custom schedules. The first backup is a full copy; subsequent ones are incremental. The feature works with both InfluxDB 2 and InfluxDB 3 engines and is accessible via the AWS Console, CLI, and API. Customer Managed KMS keys are preserved across backups.

## Questions this post answers

### Does Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB support automated backups and how many backup configurations can I set per resource?

Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB supports automated recurring backups with up to four backup configurations per resource. Each configuration can use hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, or custom schedules with its own retention period. The first backup is a full copy; subsequent backups are incremental to reduce performance impact. The feature is available for both InfluxDB 2 and InfluxDB 3 engines via the AWS Console, CLI, and API.

_Teams managing InfluxDB on AWS track feature releases like this on daily.dev to plan their data protection strategies._

### Can I restore an Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB backup to an existing resource or only to a new one?

When restoring a backup in Amazon Timestream for InfluxDB, you can either create a new resource that inherits the source configuration or restore in place by replacing an existing resource. If the source resource uses a Customer Managed KMS key, its backups use the same key, preserving encryption settings across the restore operation.
