# AMD Just Refuses To Lose

**[SK NEXUS](https://daily.dev/sources/sknexus)** · [@ybabur](https://daily.dev/ybabur) · 2 min read · 2 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

AMD is simultaneously competing against Intel in CPUs and Nvidia in GPUs, two much larger and better-funded rivals. Despite the odds, AMD has grown CPU consumer market share to 30% and is closing the GPU performance gap with FSR 4 and the RX 9070 XT. AMD also dominates console chips across PlayStation, Xbox, and Steam Deck. The core argument is that AMD doesn't need to outright win — its continued presence in the market is what keeps Intel and Nvidia competitive and prevents even higher prices for consumers.

## Content

AMD is fighting two giants at the same time.

Intel in CPUs and Nvidia in GPUs. Both are bigger and better funded than AMD with with decades of experience.

Most companies pick a single fight. AMD has no choice but to fight with two behemoths.

And here is the thing:

In CPUs they are winning. 30% consumer market share, up from basically nothing ~ 10 years ago. Server market share is growing every quarter too.

In GPUs AMD is improving. FSR 4 finally competes with DLSS. The RX 9070 XT matches Nvidia's more expensive cards in most benchmarks.

Console chips from PlayStation to Xbox to Steam Deck all run on AMD GPUs. In AI too, they are trying to make a name for themselves.

But AMD does not need to win everywhere. They need to stay in the game everywhere.

Because AMD's existence is what keeps Intel from getting complacent and Nvidia from charging whatever they want.

Ryzen is the reason Intel rebuilt their architecture from scratch. FSR is the reason DLSS keeps improving. AMD's presence in the market is the reason GPU prices are not even higher than they are.

The underdog does not need to win. It just needs to keep fighting.
