## Summary

AMD unveiled the MI455X GPU and Helios rack platform at its Advancing AI conference, with a $5B investment in Anthropic and 2GW of GPU capacity committed to run Claude. MCP is moving to stateless session handling ahead of its July 28 release, removing the Redis dependency that made large-scale deployments painful. Iranian state-backed hackers are actively disabling shutdown alarms in US water and energy ICS, per a joint FBI/NSA/CISA/DOE advisory. GitHub's Dependabot now waits three days before opening version update PRs to reduce supply chain attack exposure.

## AMD MI455X and Helios rack platform launch, with Microsoft and Anthropic as anchor customers

AMD unveiled the Instinct MI455X on TSMC's 2nm process with 432GB of HBM4 memory and roughly 20TB/s bandwidth, delivering 40 petaflops in MXFP6. The Helios rack combines 72 MI455X GPUs with EPYC Venice CPUs and Pensando networking — 4,600 CPU cores and 18,000 GPU compute units per rack. OpenAI, Meta, Oracle, Anthropic, and Microsoft all showed up as customers. AMD also announced a $5B investment in Anthropic and a commitment to deploy up to 2GW of MI450-series GPUs to run Claude, with the first gigawatt starting H1 2027. Microsoft is integrating Helios into Azure via a new ND MI455X v7 VM family. AMD shares fell roughly 4% after the announcements — Nvidia's Vera Rubin is already shipping at scale, and AMD has a history of strong hardware launches that take time to translate into real market share. ## MCP drops stateful sessions ahead of July 28 release

The Model Context Protocol is moving from stateful to stateless session handling, with GitHub's MCP server already shipping the change. The practical effect: session IDs are gone from the server side, values are read from HTTP headers, and Redis sessions are eliminated — no more database reads and writes on every initialize call. Client connections can now do parallel handshakes instead of sequential session initialization. All tier-1 SDKs maintain backwards compatibility, and the spec has been public since May. Stateful session management has been a real barrier to production MCP deployments at scale; this removes it. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/nP4VIexDL)

## Iranian hackers disabling shutdown alarms in US water and energy ICS

A joint advisory from the FBI, NSA, CISA, and the Department of Energy confirms Iranian state-backed hackers are inside US water and energy infrastructure and are actively disabling shutdown processes and alarm systems so operators don't know something is wrong. Targets are internet-exposed PLCs from Rockwell, Schneider Electric, and Siemens. CISA has since expanded the alert beyond Rockwell to cover a broader range of industrial kit. The group Handala has claimed credit for at least two incidents including a Cal Water breach. The practical guidance is blunt: remove internet-exposed PLCs, enforce phishing-resistant MFA on remote access, and audit identity and service-provider relationships. ## Aurora DSQL architecture: disaggregated OLTP with 0-RTT consistent reads

AWS published a research paper on Aurora DSQL, and one of the engineers who worked on it wrote a detailed breakdown. The core design separates Query Processors, Storage Nodes, Adjudicators, Journals, and Crossbars into independently scalable services. DSQL uses AWS TimeSync for physical clock synchronization to enable 0-RTT consistent reads, and optimistic concurrency control with snapshot isolation so there's no lock contention. The tradeoffs are real: hard limits of 3,000 rows and 10MiB per transaction, OCC retry overhead on hot keys, and foreign keys create coordination friction. Strong linearizable consistency is the default — the paper argues that improvements in time distribution and datacenter networking have made the old eventual-consistency tradeoff obsolete. - **Dependabot adds three-day cooldown before version update PRs:** GitHub's Dependabot now waits three days before opening version update pull requests, motivated by supply chain attacks where malicious packages are published and caught within hours — the GitHub Advisory Database shows roughly 18 new malicious npm packages cataloged daily. The cooldown is on by default and configurable via dependabot.yml. [Read more](https://daily.dev/posts/aXDX2KsNf)

- **Indirect prompt injection exploits GitHub's AI agent to leak private repo data:** Noma Security found that embedding hidden instructions in public GitHub issues can trick GitHub's AI agents into leaking private repository data via public comments, with the bypass triggered by the keyword 'Additionally' — researchers compare the attack class to SQL injection as a systematic, category-wide vulnerability for agentic AI.
