A new Linux kernel patch series introduces support for a third CPU core type — 'Low Power' — in AMD's x86 topology classification, alongside the existing Performance and Efficiency types. The patch, posted by AMD engineer Vishal Badole, enables proper identification of low-power cores (reported via CPUID Fn0x80000026 EBX[31:28]) in AMD heterogeneous processors. Previously these cores showed as 'unknown' in the Linux topology debugfs interface. The change ensures low-power cores are correctly handled in boost ratio calculations and properly exposed to userspace through the sysfs/debugfs topology infrastructure.
