AMD's new CPU core type just got unlocked on Linux before it was even announced

A Linux kernel patch submitted by AMD engineer Vishal Badole introduces support for a new 'Low Power' CPU core type, intended for background and idle tasks to minimize energy drain. This third core type would sit alongside existing Performance and Efficiency cores, similar to Intel's Low Power Efficient cores. Currently, Linux reports these as 'unknown' cpu_type since no chips using them exist yet and AMD hasn't officially announced them. The patch is preemptive groundwork, with the cores expected to appear in Zen 6 Mobile APUs and next-gen handheld CPUs.
