# Announcing 1.0 Release

**[Valkey](https://daily.dev/sources/valkey-blog)** · 3 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Valkey-swift, a Swift client library for the Valkey key-value store, has reached its 1.0 release with production-ready, stable APIs built on Swift 6's structured concurrency. Since the August 2025 preview, the cluster client gained more robust error handling for ASK/MOVED/TRYAGAIN redirections, cut failover downtime from 30 seconds to under 2 seconds, achieved feature parity with the standalone client including cluster-level pipelines and transactions, and consolidated subscription connections into a single shared connection. Version 1.0 also adds support for new Valkey 9.0 commands, distributed tracing, runtime-defined dynamic pipelines, numbered database configuration, and the valkey-search module. Replica reads with round-robin selection are supported, with latency- and AZ-aware selection planned alongside sentinel mode and swift-metrics integration.

## Questions this post answers

### What's new in the valkey-swift 1.0 release compared to the preview?

Valkey-swift 1.0 adds support for new commands from Valkey 9.0, distributed tracing, dynamic command pipelines defined at runtime instead of only at compile time, numbered database configuration, and the valkey-search module. The cluster client also gained feature parity with the standalone client, including cluster-level pipelines and transactions.

### How much did valkey-swift reduce cluster failover downtime in the 1.0 release?

Cluster failover and connection loss downtime dropped from 30 seconds to under 2 seconds in valkey-swift 1.0. This came alongside more robust cluster mode error handling with seamless support for ASK and MOVED redirections and TRYAGAIN errors.

_Developers evaluating cluster resilience for Valkey clients can follow updates like this on daily.dev._

### Does valkey-swift support reading from replicas for scaling reads?

Yes, both the standalone and cluster clients in valkey-swift 1.0 support reading from replicas to scale reads. Replica selection currently uses a round-robin method, with latency-aware and availability-zone-aware selection strategies planned for future releases.

_Anyone architecting read-scaling strategies with Valkey can keep tabs on client capabilities via daily.dev._
