Anthropic has announced a $200 million, four-year partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to deploy AI across global health, education, and economic mobility. The deal — four times larger than OpenAI's $50M Gates Foundation partnership — will use Claude to accelerate vaccine and drug research for neglected diseases (polio, HPV, eclampsia), make epidemiological models more accessible to non-specialists, and fund AI-powered tutoring tools in sub-Saharan Africa and India. A key commitment is releasing benchmarks, datasets, and evaluation frameworks as public goods to benefit the broader AI industry. Anthropic's contribution includes engineering staff time and API credits, while the Gates Foundation provides grant funding and field expertise.
