Anthropic integration with Modal brings scalable compute to Claude Science

Anthropic has launched Claude Science, an AI workbench for life sciences researchers that lets them run computational biology workloads directly from a conversation with Claude. Modal is the compute backend powering this integration, providing elastic GPU and CPU resources for demanding tasks like protein structure prediction, virtual screening, CRISPR guide design, and single-cell analysis. Researchers can connect their Modal workspace in Claude Science settings, and workloads automatically route to Modal sandboxes when they exceed local capacity. Key capabilities include parallel fan-out across hundreds of containers, per-step GPU access, shared storage via Modal Volumes, and reproducible environments. Modal is also committing up to $100,000 in compute credits for academic life sciences departments through a cohort program, with applications open until July 15, 2026.
