## Summary

Apertis v2025 is the second and final Debian 12 (Bookworm)-based release for industrial embedded devices, upgrading the kernel from Linux LTS 6.6 to Linux LTS 6.12 (maintained until December 2026). The release adds support for the NXP Layerscape LS1028A RDB board and initial kernel support for the MYIR Remi Pi (Renesas RZ/G2L). Key infrastructure improvements include fully automated GitLab-CI pipelines for the folding and branching release processes, automatic copyright report generation and merge request creation, intelligent pipeline cancellation to eliminate redundant builds, and expanded germinate tooling for dependency analysis. The package dashboard now shows diff summaries against upstream Debian packages, and Go/Rust packages were reorganized for license compliance, doubling the target component from ~560 to ~1200 packages. The QA Report App also received a visual redesign with filtering, charts, and logout support. Apertis v2026 will rebase on Debian Trixie.

## Questions this post answers

### What Linux kernel version does Apertis v2025 ship with and how long is it supported?

Apertis v2025 ships with Linux LTS 6.12, the latest long-term support kernel at the time of release. This kernel version will be maintained mainline until December 2026. The previous Apertis v2024 release used Linux LTS 6.6. Collabora contributed improvements to Rockchip and MediaTek SoC support in this kernel version.

_Embedded Linux developers tracking LTS kernel adoption across platforms follow those decisions on daily.dev._

### What Debian version is Apertis v2025 based on and what comes next?

Apertis v2025 is based on Debian 12 (Bookworm), incorporating all updates from Debian 12.9. It is the final Apertis release on Bookworm. The next release, Apertis v2026, will rebase on Debian Trixie (Debian 13).

_Teams planning an embedded OS rebase to Debian Trixie can track the Apertis v2026 progress on daily.dev._
