**[Collections](https://daily.dev/sources/collections)** · 2 min read · 9 upvotes · 4 comments

## Summary

iOS 26.1 Beta 4 adds transparency controls for the Liquid Glass interface, letting users choose between Clear and Tinted options in Display & Brightness settings. The system-wide change affects apps, Lock Screen notifications, and third-party apps using the design. Apple introduced this customization following user feedback about readability issues with transparent elements. The update also includes a slide-to-stop alarm function and the ability to disable Lock Screen camera swipe access.

## Content

Apple has unveiled a new feature in iOS 26.1 Beta 4, allowing users to adjust the transparency of the Liquid Glass interface with two options: "Clear" and "Tinted." This addition offers greater customization over the appearance of UI elements and addresses feedback regarding the readability of the transparent design elements introduced in iOS 26.

The new toggle is located within the Display & Brightness settings, enabling users to choose between a more transparent look or a tinted appearance with increased opacity and contrast. This change is applied system-wide, affecting apps and Lock Screen notifications, and even extends to third-party apps that have adopted the Liquid Glass design.

Apple introduced these customization options following user concerns about legibility issues caused by the transparent interface. As part of the same update, other features have been introduced, such as a slide-to-stop function for alarms and the ability to disable camera access via the swipe gesture from the Lock Screen.

This update reflects Apple's continued effort to offer users control over interface changes, similar to its previous accommodations following feedback, such as the option to revert Safari's address bar to its traditional position at the top of the screen. By providing flexibility with the Liquid Glass appearance, Apple is enhancing user experience and accessibility across its devices.

> The company that is being known for the best in class design in the industry has to give you a toggle to switch off its newest background design because the text isn't readable on it.
>
> That toggle is stupid in itself. If the text isn't readable, the feature is broken, you don't need a toggle because you actually don't need the feature. Just make the "tinted" version the normal one and remove the darn toggle.
>
> This entire situation is absolutely hilarious.
