Architect Labs, a Palo Alto startup, has emerged from stealth with a $24M seed round led by Kindred Ventures to build an AI system that designs and verifies custom chips end-to-end. The company aims to create a 'designless' semiconductor industry — analogous to how the fabless model separated chip design from manufacturing — so any company can get custom silicon without becoming a chip company. It targets the lucrative custom-chip business currently dominated by Broadcom and Marvell, which design bespoke AI accelerators for cloud giants. The founding team includes veterans from Apple, Tesla, Harvard, and Stanford, with collective experience taping out over 80 production chips. Architect Labs says it has already deployed with semiconductor partners and expects AI-generated designs to tape out on leading-edge nodes later this year.
