Arcturus, a stealth startup, has developed a method to infuse carbon nanomaterials into copper and aluminum using lasers, significantly improving electrical conductivity. The resulting material could cut electrical grid losses in half, unlocking roughly 3% more electricity on average and up to 10% during peak congestion. The company raised an $8 million seed round led by Initialized Capital with participation from Toyota Ventures and Breakthrough Energy Discovery. Currently producing centimeter-scale wire proofs of concept in a Malibu garage, Arcturus plans to scale to tens of meters and target initial markets in drones, robotics, and data centers before tackling grid infrastructure. The material is designed as a drop-in replacement requiring no system redesign.
