# Are political journalists always wrong?

**[Terence Eden](https://daily.dev/sources/shkspr)** · 3 min read · 1 upvotes · 3 comments

## Summary

A personal reflection on the inaccuracy of political journalism, prompted by UK Prime Minister coverage. The author informally tracked 'sources say' headlines during a cabinet reshuffle and found roughly 85% were wrong. Drawing inspiration from The Economist's LLM-powered self-audit of its own forecasting accuracy, the author calls for someone to build a leaderboard ranking political journalists by the accuracy of their rumours using newspaper archives and a local AI model.

> We only have ourselves to blame, the success of "news" is now measured on emotional impact rather than factual accuracy, which often is an after thought.

> Marginally true with hyper sensation trumps factually accurate any day when it comes to the true value that every news outlet chases... attention!

> They know that most people only read headlines so they "get away" with creating the narrative they want within the headline when the article says something different, (and the source says something different still). Been doing this a long time. Saying they are merely wrong is letting them off the hook, it's purposefully misleading.
