# Arm Working On "TLBID" For Linux To Increase Performance On High Core Count CPUs

**[Phoronix](https://daily.dev/sources/phoronix)** · 1 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

Arm has sent an initial set of Linux kernel patches to support TLBI Domains (TLBID), a mechanism that lets Translation Lookaside Buffer invalidation target only the CPU cores where a process actually ran instead of flushing the TLB system-wide. This is aimed at reducing overhead on high core count Arm server CPUs. No performance numbers have been published, TLBID is not yet part of the Arm Architecture Reference Manual, and the feature also requires LLVM 23+ or GNU Binutils 2.46+ for instruction support, meaning real silicon support is likely still far off.

## Questions this post answers

### What is Arm TLBID and how does it improve performance on high core count server CPUs?

TLBID (TLBI Domains) is a proposed Arm feature letting the Linux kernel send TLB invalidation commands only to the specific CPU cores where a process actually ran, instead of flushing the TLB across the entire system. This reduces invalidation overhead, which matters most on high core count Arm server processors. It is not yet in the Arm Architecture Reference Manual and requires LLVM 23+ or Binutils 2.46+.
