The appointment comes days after Xbox announced 3,200 layoffs and the closure of studios including Double Fine, Ninja Theory, Undead Labs, and Compulsion Games — the largest mass layoff in the video game industry in 2026. Sharma joins the task force alongside Andreessen Horowitz cofounder Marc Andreessen and Stanford economist Charles I. Jones, both of whom have strong ties to the AI industry.
