Two Asian AI companies have launched models positioned as alternatives to Anthropic's Mythos and Fable 5, which the Trump Administration has banned from non-American access. Tokyo-based Sakana AI released Fugu, a frontier model designed for agent orchestration that it says matches Fable 5 and Mythos Preview capabilities, targeting Japanese businesses and government agencies seeking to reduce exposure to export control risks. Separately, Chinese cybersecurity firm 360 unveiled Tulongfeng and Yitianzhen, AI security tools for vulnerability discovery and cyber defense. While Sakana frames Fugu as a hedge rather than a permanent shift away from US AI, the launches highlight how the export ban is creating market openings for local alternatives trained on regional languages and culture. Anthropic, which reported $47 billion run-rate revenue in May 2026, risks losing significant Asian enterprise market share as local competitors fill the gap.
