Notable limitations remain: foreign keys are unsupported and applications must handle transaction conflicts due to the optimistic concurrency model. ## Content Amazon has shipped a round of updates to Aurora DSQL, its PostgreSQL-compatible serverless distributed database. The changes fall into three areas: new language connectors, developer tooling, and engine improvements. ## Language connectors AWS released official Aurora DSQL connectors for .NET (Npgsql), Rust (SQLx), Ruby (pg gem), Go (pgx), Python (asyncpg), and Node.js. Each connector handles the parts that are easy to get wrong when connecting to DSQL manually: IAM token generation per connection, SSL configuration, and connection pooling. Because DSQL uses IAM-based authentication rather than traditional passwords, the connectors remove the need to manage credentials yourself. All connectors also support opt-in optimistic concurrency control (OCC) retry with exponential backoff, custom IAM credential providers, and AWS profile support. That last point matters for teams that already manage multiple AWS environments through named profiles. ## Developer tooling A browser-based Aurora DSQL Playground is now available with no AWS account required. It's a low-friction way to try the database before committing to a setup. For teams already using existing tools, DSQL now integrates with SQLTools for VS Code and DBeaver Community Edition. On the ORM and migration side, Tortoise ORM, Flyway, and Prisma are all supported. There's also a Kiro AI agent integration for schema design and query assistance, though how useful that turns out to be in practice will depend on the project. ## Engine improvements Aurora DSQL now supports identity columns and sequence objects, which closes a gap with standard PostgreSQL that was a friction point for migrations. That said, some trade-offs remain. Foreign keys aren't supported, and the optimistic concurrency model means applications need to handle transaction conflicts explicitly.
