Autodesk has agreed to acquire MaintainX, a mobile-first maintenance and operations platform, for $3.6 billion in cash. MaintainX, founded in 2018, serves over 500,000 frontline workers with computerized maintenance management software and had annual recurring revenue near $115 million. The acquisition fills the 'operate' gap in Autodesk's 'design, make and operate' strategy, creating a new Autodesk Operations Solutions division. Beyond the strategic fit, there is an AI angle: maintenance data from work orders and asset repairs can feed predictive models, complementing Autodesk's existing generative-AI design tools. The deal is expected to close as early as August 3, 2025.
