# Automatic property observation in UIKit with @Observable

**[Nil Coalescing](https://daily.dev/sources/nilcoalescing)** · 4 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

UIKit now supports Swift Observation natively, automatically tracking reads of @Observable class properties in update methods. On iOS 26, the new updateProperties() method is the recommended place for this, while iOS 18 support can be enabled via a UIObservationTrackingEnabled Info.plist key using viewWillLayoutSubviews(). This eliminates the need for manual withObservationTracking() calls and makes it straightforward to share reactive state between UIKit views and embedded SwiftUI components.
