Avalanche’s desktop fusion reactor delivers blistering-hot plasma

Fusion startup Avalanche Energy has achieved a key milestone by heating plasma in its desktop-scale reactor prototype to roughly 11 million degrees Celsius (exceeding the 1 keV threshold), spending less than $50 million in venture funding to do so. The company's small reactor core, called Jyn, is only five inches in diameter and has been iterated 25 times since last fall. While no fusion reactor has yet produced net energy, this milestone puts Avalanche on a credible path toward ignition conditions. The results were validated by an MIT plasma physicist but have not yet been peer-reviewed.
