# AWS Glue Data Quality now supports distribution statistics for data profiling

**[AWS](https://daily.dev/sources/aws)** · 2 min read · 0 upvotes · 1 comments

## Summary

AWS Glue Data Quality has added a new Distribution Analyzer to its Data Quality Definition Language (DQDL). It generates frequency distribution profiles including histograms for numeric columns and value distributions for categorical, date, and boolean columns. Custom bin counts are supported for flexible granularity. Distribution statistics help identify skewness, outliers, and unexpected patterns without custom code. Results integrate with existing DQDL rulesets, are stored in Amazon S3 for querying via Athena, and are accessible through APIs and SageMaker Unified Studio. The feature is available in all AWS commercial and GovCloud (US) regions.

## Questions this post answers

### What does the new Distribution Analyzer in AWS Glue Data Quality do?

It generates frequency distribution profiles for datasets, producing histograms for numeric columns and value distributions for categorical, date, and boolean columns, configurable with custom bin counts. It integrates directly with existing DQDL rulesets so distribution profiling runs alongside current data quality checks in one evaluation. Results are stored in Amazon S3, queryable via Athena, and exposed through APIs for monitoring and visualization tools like SageMaker Unified Studio.

### Which AWS regions support AWS Glue Data Quality distribution statistics?

Distribution statistics are available in all AWS commercial regions and AWS GovCloud (US) regions. This means the Distribution Analyzer feature within Glue Data Quality's DQDL can be used broadly without waiting for regional rollout.

_Teams planning Glue Data Quality rollouts can follow region availability updates on daily.dev._

> Nice addition. Averages can look healthy while a skewed distribution hides the real data issue. Having histograms and value counts inside the same DQDL ruleset should save a fair bit of custom profiling code.
