# AWS IAM Identity Center supports one-click multi-Region option for new organization instances

**[AWS](https://daily.dev/sources/aws)** · 2 min read · 1 upvotes · 2 comments

## Summary

AWS IAM Identity Center now offers a one-click multi-Region option when creating new organization instances. Previously, enabling multi-Region support required multiple manual steps: creating a customer managed KMS key, configuring key policies, and adding Regions individually. The new setup presents three configuration choices — single-Region, multi-Region, or custom — where the multi-Region option automatically creates a customer managed multi-Region KMS key and replicates the instance to an additional Region, improving resilience. The feature is available in 17 enabled-by-default commercial AWS Regions. Standard KMS charges apply for the auto-created key; IAM Identity Center itself has no additional cost.

## Questions this post answers

### How do I enable multi-Region support in AWS IAM Identity Center for a new organization instance?

Choose the multi-Region instance option when creating a new organization instance in a supported Region, which enables multi-Region support in one click. This automatically creates a customer managed multi-Region KMS key and replicates the instance to an additional Region, avoiding the previous manual process of creating a KMS key, configuring key policies, and adding Regions individually.

### What are the three instance configuration options when creating a new IAM Identity Center organization instance?

The three options are single-Region instance, multi-Region instance, and custom instance. Single-Region keeps everything in one Region, multi-Region auto-creates a customer managed multi-Region KMS key and replicates to a second Region for resilience, and custom lets administrators configure Region settings individually, including reusing an existing customer managed KMS key.

### Does AWS charge extra for enabling multi-Region support in IAM Identity Center?

IAM Identity Center itself is provided at no additional cost, but standard AWS KMS charges apply for the customer managed multi-Region key that gets created when enabling the multi-Region instance option. This applies within the 17 enabled-by-default commercial AWS Regions supported for organization instances.

> The one-click path removes a lot of easy-to-miss setup work. I’d still treat regional failover as something to test regularly, especially KMS access and recovery behavior, because a replicated configuration only becomes resilience once the runbook is proven.
