# AWS WAF adds AI traffic monetization capability to help content owners charge AI bots for content access

**[AWS](https://daily.dev/sources/aws)** · 8 min read · 0 upvotes · 0 comments

## Summary

AWS WAF now includes an AI traffic monetization capability that lets content owners and publishers charge AI bots and agents for accessing their web content directly at the network edge. With AI bot traffic exceeding 50% of web traffic for many publishers and growing 300%+ year-over-year, this feature addresses the problem of AI crawlers consuming content without returning referral traffic or revenue. Publishers can set per-request pricing by content path, bot category, or verification tier, accept stablecoin payments (USDC) via the x402 protocol to any wallet address, and monitor revenue through a dedicated dashboard — all without modifying origin infrastructure. AWS WAF Bot Control classifies over 650 AI bot types including GPTBot, Claude-Web, and Perplexity-Bot, assigning each a verification tier. Payment settlement is currently handled via Coinbase's x402 Facilitator, with Stripe and Machine Payments Protocol (MPP) support coming soon. The feature is available now for CloudFront customers at no additional charge beyond standard WAF pricing.
