The hosted server gives AI agents authenticated access to Azure DevOps data — work items, pull requests, pipelines, repos, wikis, and test plans — via a single URL without local installation. Authentication flows through Microsoft Entra, inheriting existing organizational identity policies. Key enterprise controls include an X-MCP-Readonly header for read-only access and X-MCP-Toolsets for scoping which tool categories agents can use. Current limitations include support only for VS Code and Visual Studio as clients, with other tools like Claude and GitHub Copilot CLI requiring additional OAuth setup. On-premises Azure DevOps Server is not yet supported.
