Wenting Zhang has developed the Modos Flow, a 60 Hz refresh rate E-ink monitor that challenges the assumption that slow refresh is inherent to E-ink technology. The real bottleneck was the controller, originally designed for low-power e-readers with limited interfaces. By building a custom controller, Zhang achieved high-speed refresh rates suitable for use as a computer monitor. The result is a fully open-source, user-repairable 13.3" portable E-ink monitor available in monochrome and color versions through Crowd Supply.
